...It's nice to go into an exam knowing that one can derive all those trig function values based on just two memorized facts. The key to studying for the SAT Math section is to get an SAT practice book and work on as many problems as possible. Those practice books contain the right mix of geometry, algebra, probability, etc.

...Tutoring is an act of observation. It succeeds where normal instruction fails because it is geared toward a student's particular strengths. My best experiences as a tutor have been with the students who needed me most, learning how they needed to learn.

I've been teaching or tutoring for over twenty years in some form or another. For me the reward from tutoring is when I see that a student has caught onto an idea, when the light bulb goes on. In my career I've not only studied physics, mathematics and statistics, but applied them as well as time management and study skills.

...I have the 5th edition of the Stewart textbook, an excellent book used by many schools, and the student solutions manual 5th edition. I also enjoy the fact that as complicated as calculus is mathematically, many of its concepts and theorems are intuitively clear, such as continuity & differentiability, IVT, MVT, extrema, and some infinite series tests. These aid in teaching to students.

A strong liberal arts education and a long career in statistical modeling have left me filled with facts and skills that I am motivated to pass on. Most important of these is a strong intuition for rooting out problems in analyses and finding alternative ways to make things work. I believe these are both teachable skills.
