...I've also had students tell me that I'm the first professor they've had that actually seemed interested in the topics they were teaching! With all of that, I also won't waste time teaching what the student already knows. It's why I take a bit of time at the beginning to see where the student is at, and I keep records so that I only have to ask these questions once.
