...I was able to help teach them how to be a better writer by focusing on emotions, vivid imagery, and succinct language. When I work one-on-one with a student I believe it is important to emphasize not only what could be done better but also what the student is doing well. Too often I see it happen that good habits are crushed under the oppressive weight of the desire to change the bad.
