...Explain, with real life examples, why the knowledge will make a difference for the better for the student. By letting the student know how the knowledge will improve them you create a real desire for the student to learn the subject. Make it fun by allowing the student to suggest how they will be able to use the knowledge and then applying it to that and several similar situations.

...I would like to give the students that I work with a sound foundation in math. What I mean by foundation is that you can't go on to the higher level maths unless you have a good grasp of the basics. I have had to put a lot of time and hard work in to getting as far as I have.
