...For letters like c and g, we'd stick with the 'hard' sounds (e.g. cat, goat) initially. With the vowels, I would teach them the name of the vowel and its corresponding 'short' sound. Then I would teach them consonant combinations such as bl, cl, sh, ph, ck.

...In fact, a lot of the learning process includes things that you probably already know! And the amazing thing about this process is that it can be applied to a lot of subjects, both mathematical and otherwise. Teachers often do not try to make the LEARNING process easier than it can be.
