...A large part of being a success as a mentor is learning why my assistance is needed in the first place. There are many different reasons why a student may need tutoring. It may have little to do with the aptitude and current potential of the student and more to do with knowledge gaps in their academic background, study skills, or how much a students likes or dislikes a subject.

...I am very patient with students and I try to help them build confidence in their study habits. I think teaching one-on-one is very effective, and I don't give up until the student can do it one their own. I know that it is sometimes difficult to get excited about a particular math concept, especially when you don't think you will need it down the road.
