I am a Texas certified math teacher for grades 6-12. For 9 years, I have worked with H.I.S.D. teaching all levels of middle school math. In addition, I was the Mathcounts competition coach for 6 years.

I tutored elementary and middle school children in reading and basic math on a weekly basis for 3 years. Developing a strong fundamental understanding of phonics is the key to learning how to read. I encourage students to sound out words and try to make learning fun.

...I am still working with her - she will graduate this December. As far as hands-on experience with the TAKS test goes, I worked for a brief time (about a year) with the Houston Independent School District in the Research and Accountability department. One of my duties there was to look for evidence of TAKS cheating by 3rd and 5th graders.
