...In just a few minutes, I can usually determine what area or areas need to be worked on to improve spelling. Surprisingly, it is not usually that the student is weak in phonics that causes the spelling problems but that there is some underlying skill that is weak, such as sequencing or visual memory. This weakness makes the student unable to retain the phonics that he or she has studied.
